Replacement Sling Measuring Guide

How-to Measure Sling Fabric

Important Sling Measuring Information

We do not want you to measure the old sling. Measurements should be taken while the sling material is still installed tightly in the furniture frame. Measuring an old sling that has been removed from the frame is not accurate. Measure only installed slings, even if they are cut or ripped. For the width measurement, we require the distance from the center of the sling rail channel to the center of the opposing sling rail channel. Do not be tempted to add to these measurement. Measure to the nearest 1/8". The necessary fabric for seam allowances will be added.

STEP 1 - Identify The Sling Rail
Imagine a center line that runs down the length of the sling rail slot. You will be measuring from center line to center line.
STEP 2 - Top Sling Width
Using a tape measure (a flexible cloth or plastic type works best) measure the distance from the center of one sling rail to center of the opposite sling rail. Measure to the nearest 1/8". Patio Sling Express will add the necessary fabric for seam allowances. Be sure and measure a few inches down from the top as sling rails tend to flare out and spread over time.

STEP 3 - Bottom Sling Width
Repeat this process on the bottom of the chair or chaise. Never assume the top and the bottom measurement are the same. Measure from center to center of the sling rail. Sling rails tend to flare out under tension. The most accurate measurements are taken a few inches from the bottom. Remember to record your measurement to the closest 1/8".

STEP 4 - Sling Length
Starting at the top of the chair, measure the overall length. Make sure you follow the contour or curve of the chair. It is best to measure along the edge of the chair or sling rail and not in the middle of the chair. Use the curve of the sling rail as your guide. Measure to the closest 1/4". This measurement will be the finished length of the sling. Patio Sling Express will allow yardage for the necessary seam allowances.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
For accurate measurement, make sure the sling rails are tightly fastened to the chair frame. The sling should not be baggy or loose on the frame.

2 Piece Slings - Separate top and bottom
Measure the top width, bottom width and length of both the back and bottom portions of the sling. Use the same method as described above in step 1-3. You will have six separate measurements for this type of sling.

Single Piece Chaise - With side notches
This style of sling is typically seen used with Brown Jordan, Quantum style outdoor furniture. Because single piece chase slings have a notch where the sling back folds there will be two measurements required for sling length, one for the top and one for the bottom. Measure the top from the top of the sling to the top of the notch. Measure the bottom from the bottom of the sling to the bottom of the notch. The notch is a standard size and we calculate it into the over all length of the new sling. You will have 4 separate measurements for this type of sling.

Basic Sling Information
As the saying goes, measure twice, cut once. Make sure your measurements are accurate before placing your order. Measurement should be made to the closest 1/8". Please don't make any adjustments to the measurements you take. Don't add a bit here or take away a bit there. Please follow the exact measuring instructions provided. Patio Sling Express will add the necessary seam allowances for length and width.
